Several countries which levy personal income tax and other taxes have created an electronic tax board as a function of their e-State.

Estonia is one of these countries. What makes Estonia’s E-Tax Board special is the fact that most of the information is already available in the tax board environment. With a pre-completed form, users do not have to enter their data twice.

The system identifies persons with the help of the ID-card, Mobile-ID or Internet bank.

Submitting your tax return online takes only a few minutes, because the X-road makes all the required information systems readily available.

If a person is entitled to a tax refund, the money will be transferred to that person’s bank account in a matter of days, provided that all the data in the tax return is accurate.

Estonia also stands out among other countries for the fact that, in 2007, a total of 86% of all tax-payers submitted their income tax returns electronically.
