Connecting
Estonia has had a great deal of experience in combining different information systems into a common exchange system. We have successfully implemented the secure X-road data exchange layer which today includes the services of over eighty databases. There are more than 1,500 services which have additionally been combined into many service packages. In order to provide services through X-road, the information systems of more than 500 different organisations and institutions have been connected to the system.
Traffic
The traffic on X-road also includes the information systems of the private sector (such as banks, insurance companies, utility companies, telecommunications companies, etc). Additionally, X-road helps the information systems of private sector companies to communicate with the state’s information systems and databases.
Security
X-road is valued for its security and traceability, its standardised and decentralised nature, the authentication procedures, and many other features.
In 2007, people used services via X-road more than 42,000,000 times.
Great solution!
The X-road is also a great solution for connecting the information systems of Estonia with the information systems of other countries, thus creating an international service space.
Today, each country has many different information systems and related functions. If there are just a few information systems, it is probably not very difficult to keep track of them. But as the number of information systems increases, the need for an overview of the information systems and their related functions also increases.
